Generally speaking, all saline implants are made of a silicone shell with a filling valve, for the injection of the saline solution during your surgery. To better meet each woman’s individual needs, breast implants come in a variety of different shapes and sizes. Round breast implants are round in design. They enhance breast size, and may produce a more rounded appearance to the upper portion of the breast. Anatomical or shaped breast implants are designed to reflect the slope of the breast. Because of its upper area gently sloping downward and outward, the shaped breast implant is more likely to shape the upper part of the breast with a gentle slope. Saline-filled breast implants are available in a wide variety of sizes to…

Some patients wonder if they should be at an ideal weight before having breast augmentation surgery. We tell them they should be close to their ideal weight. A significant loss of weight after receiving breast implants could alter the results in a manner that is not satisfactory to them. There could be some ptosis or drooping and a reduction in size as the patient loses breast volume. A significant gain in weight could cause an increase in breast size.
We receive many questions about placement of implants from our patients. When a patient has breast augmentation surgery, the breast implant can either be placed partially under the pectoralis major muscle (submuscular) or on top of the muscle and under the breast gland (subglandular). (more…)
Will my breasts still move like normal breasts? This depends on multiple factors, such as the type of breast implant you have, the placement of the implant, the way your body holds the implant and whether or not there is any degree of capsular contracture. It is possible for many women to have breast implants that are soft and move nicely, while other women have results that are firmer and with an implant more fixed in position.

Patients often ask me if having breast implants will affect mammography. Having breast implants may make mammography more difficult. It is important that you tell your mammography technologist that you have implants prior to the procedure. Special displacement techniques and additional views may be required.
Women often ask me what is involved in having a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. I explain to them that an abdominoplasty is a procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen, and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. This surgery is helpful in women who, through multiple pregnancies or significant weight loss, have stretched their abdominal muscles and skin beyond the point where they can return to normal. I also explain to them that they may benefit from an abdominoplasty done in conjunction with liposuction to remove fat deposits from the…
I have many friends who have had children, and once done breastfeeding, are unhappy with the appearance of their breasts. Over coffee, they ask me questions about breast lift surgery. I explain that a mastopexy or “breast liftâ€, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. As they are aware, factors such as pregnancy, breast-feeding and aging take their toll on a woman’s breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts will often lose their shape and firmness, and begin to sag. (more…)
